Como Cathedral Tickets

Two things stand out. The online price is 50 cents higher on every line it carries, which matches the shop's own note that prices include presale and commission fees. And the most common reduction, for over-65s, Como residents and university students, is not on sale online at all.

The Family Pass needs a word. The price sheet sells it as one $17.31 (€15) pass for a family with no more than two adults. The online shop lists a line called Family Pass € 15 at $4.90 (€4.25), which reads as a per-person share of the same pass. That is our reading, not a published rule, so a family unsure of the maths is better off buying at the Infopoint desk, where the pass is sold as one ticket.

And the free list is wider than most visitors expect: carers of disabled visitors and qualified tour guides with their card enter free, as do children under 6.

The Broletto Infopoint

Paper tickets are sold at the Broletto Infopoint on Via Pretorio, which runs along the north side of the cathedral. It opens every day of the week, morning and afternoon, with a lunch break (the exact hours are in the key facts above). That makes it the one place to buy on a Sunday too, although a Sunday ticket does not get you into the paid areas that day.

This is the channel to use if you qualify for the $4.61 (€4) reduction, if you want the Family Pass as a single ticket, or if you simply want the lower $6.92 (€6) price. Mind that lunch break: the desk shuts from 13:00 to 14:00.

Online, Through The Official Shop

The cathedral's own BUY ONLINE button sends you to the Musei Como shop on Vivaticket, the ticketing portal of the city's museum system. The tickets are digital. The shop asks you to choose a date and then an hourly time, from 10:30 to 16:30 on a weekday, with a stated number of places per slot.

The cathedral's buy page settles what that means in capital letters: entry to the cathedral is not tied to the date selected. So a date is a formality of the booking system, not a timed slot you can miss. The cost of the convenience is 50 cents on the standard ticket, and the loss of the over-65, resident and university reduction.

Is There A Queue To Skip?

Nothing the cathedral publishes suggests one. There is no timed entry, the free route runs alongside, and the paid areas are sold at a desk next door. A platform listing that promises to skip a cathedral line is selling something the cathedral's own system does not ration.

The cathedral answers this on its own Visits page, and it is worth knowing before you pay. Without a ticket, tourists follow a set route: in through the Porta delle Virtù, along the right aisle past the altar of Sant'Abbondio and the Pala Raimondi, under the organ lofts, and out along the left aisle past the altars of the Deposition and of St Joseph, leaving by the Porta della Rana. Prayer access, weekdays 07:30 to 19:00, is free through any door.

The ticket adds four areas: the transept, the wooden choir, the sacristies and the upper walkways. The transept and choir sit under the dome, the later half of the building, and the sacristies are closed to anyone without a ticket.

So the question is simple. If a look down the Gothic nave and the organ cases is what you came for, keep the money. If you want to stand under Juvarra's dome and see the choir up close, the $6.92 (€6) is modest for what it opens, and the cathedral says the income goes to restoration because it receives no regular State subsidy. Each pass opens the cathedral's paid areas as well as the free route, so the cathedral part is identical to the single ticket. The difference is what else comes with it.

Who The Pass Suits

The pass is worth a look if Alessandro Volta's museum or the civic art gallery is already on your list. We could not find the single ticket price of the Tempio Voltiano or the Pinacoteca printed as text on an official page, so we do not claim a saving. Compare the pass against those two prices at the desk before you buy.

The calendar matters more than the price. The cathedral's paid areas are closed on Sundays, and the Tempio Voltiano and the Pinacoteca open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00. A 72-hour pass started on a Saturday covers the cathedral that day and both museums on Sunday. A pass started on a Sunday wastes a day for the cathedral, and Monday then closes both museums. To go up, each visitor signs a declaration that releases the cathedral from liability, and the group must be led by a licensed tour guide whose card number goes on the form. The cathedral says it does not organise paid visits itself, so the guide is yours to find. No separate walkway price is published.

If that list rules you out, the high view over Como is easier from the hill: the Brunate funicular climbs above the rooftops in 7 minutes for $4.27 (€3.70).

The cathedral's 2026 closure calendar lists every Sunday and holy day of obligation as closed to all tourist visits, and the 2026 price sheet says Sunday sightseeing is suspended. Several page sidebars still show Sunday hours of 11:00-11:45 and 13:00-16:30, but the dated documents are the ones to go by. The named days still to come this year are below.

The cathedral also warns that visiting times and routes can change for services or its own organisational needs. The online shop's calendar only offers the days it sells, which is a quick way to check a date before you travel.

For entry, no. The cathedral states that it does not organise paid visits, and none of the tours on sale in Como includes its ticket. Read the listings closely: the guided city walk at $43.56 visits the cathedral from outside and says entrance tickets are not included, the small-group Como and Brunate walk at $66.49 puts the cathedral on a four-hour route with the funicular, and the private walking tour at $72.65 covers the centre with Villa Olmo on its longer option, the villa seen from outside while it is closed.

A guide earns the money on the outside. The façade carries the work of several sculptors across the 15th and 16th centuries, and the portals and the Door of the Frog are easy to walk past without knowing what they show. Take the walk for that, then spend $6.92 (€6) at the desk if you want the choir. The one case where you do need a guide is the upper walkways, and none of these listings says it goes up there.
