Monday is the hard day. The civic museums, the Silk Museum and San Fedele's general visits all stop, and a wet Monday needs its own plan.

The Monday Plan
Give the morning to the cathedral, which keeps its full weekday tourist hours on Mondays. Buy the paper ticket at the Broletto Infopoint on Via Pretorio for $6.92 (€6), then take the time the ticket allows in the transept, the wooden choir and the sacristies. In the afternoon walk to the Basilica di Sant'Abbondio, open every day until 18:30 and free, about 10 minutes on foot from Porta Torre by our estimate.

Sunday reverses Monday. The museums open, and the cathedral, the one sight everyone plans around, runs no tourist visits.
What the Cathedral Says About Sundays
The cathedral's 2026 closure calendar lists all Sundays and holy days of obligation as closed to tourist visits, and its 2026 price sheet says Sunday sightseeing is suspended. The sidebar on its website still prints Sunday hours, but the dated documents are the ones to follow. Prayer access continues, and a visitor attending a service is a worshipper, not a tourist, so keep the camera away.

- Morning: the Silk Museum from 10:00, $11.54 (€10), or the Pinacoteca from 10:00, $6.92 (€6).
- Late morning: San Fedele's Sunday opening is 09:00-12:00, but tourist visits stop during services and for 30 minutes before them, and Sunday Masses are at 08:30, 10:00, 11:30 and 18:00. Time the visit between them.
- Afternoon: the Tempio Voltiano on the lakeshore, open 10:00-18:00.
- Sant'Abbondio is open until 18:30, but its Sunday Mass is at 16:30 (20:30 in July and August), so visit before it.

Why This Order
San Fedele's morning opening ends at 12:00 and the cathedral's tourist hours start at 10:30, so the church goes first. The Pinacoteca's last entry is 17:30, which leaves the afternoon room for a last stop. The Silk Museum closes at 18:00 and Sant'Abbondio at 18:30.
On a Saturday the cathedral's tourist visits run 10:45-16:30, so shift the cathedral slot to 10:45 and keep it in the morning.

Is the Como Art Pass Worth It on a Wet Day?
The pass covers exactly the three indoor sights a rainy day is built on, so this is the one day it is most likely to earn its price.

The saving is small, but the pass is valid for 72 hours from the first entry, which is what makes it useful on a rainy trip: use one site in the rain today and keep the second for tomorrow's shower. The pass does not cover the Silk Museum, the churches or the Casa del Fascio. It does not help on a Sunday for the cathedral either, since there are no tourist visits.

Which to Book
The pizza class is the longest time indoors and the obvious rain booking for adults and teenagers. The pasta class at a home suits a family with younger children, since no minimum age is printed, though it is worth asking. The food tour is the one to avoid if the rain is heavy, because its operator says it goes ahead whatever the weather and weather-appropriate clothing is its only requirement.

The Lake and the Hill in the Rain
Rain does not stop the boats or the funicular, but it changes whether they are worth the fare. Here is what the operators publish.
Boats
Navigazione Lago di Como publishes no weather rule on its tariff sheet. It refunds a ticket if a departure is delayed by 60 minutes or more or the run is cancelled. A short hop is the least wasted fare in poor visibility: Como to Cernobbio is $3.46 (€3) one way.
For boat tours, the operator of the small-group boat tour with prosecco advises dressing for rain and bringing a warm jacket in winter, and does not say the tour is cancelled for weather. Fares and piers are on the Como ferry page.
The Funicular and Brunate
The funicular runs every day from 06:00 to midnight in any weather, $4.27 (€3.70) one way. The point of the ride is the view over the first basin, and low cloud hides it, so save it for a break in the rain. The Faro Voltiano lighthouse at the top has been closed since 2024 for repairs, with no reopening date from either Comune.

Is Como Worth Visiting in the Rain?
Yes, if the day of the week is right. From Tuesday to Saturday the cathedral, two civic museums, the Silk Museum and two basilicas fill a full day under a roof, with a covered ticket office at the Broletto. What rain costs Como is the lake view and the hill, which is exactly what a clear second day or a return trip is for.

What Is Closed Whatever the Weather
Some indoor places appear in rainy-day lists but cannot be visited now. Each of these is confirmed on an official page.
- Museo Archeologico Paolo Giovio: the exhibition halls are closed for maintenance, and no reopening date is given.
- Museo storico Giuseppe Garibaldi: the exhibition halls are closed for maintenance.
- Villa Olmo: the villa is closed for restoration and the Comune lists no current exhibition. The park stays open and free, as Villa Olmo explains.
- Casa del Fascio: never a walk-in visit. Only scheduled guided visits through Slow Lake Como, limited to the atrium, with ID emailed in advance.
- Teatro Sociale: guided visits exist for individuals and groups, but no public schedule or individual price is printed. Ask the box office on +39 031 270170, open Tuesday and Thursday 10:00-14:00, Wednesday and Friday 16:00-19:00 and Saturday 10:00-15:00.
