Como Costs: What a Day and a Night Really Cost

The Comune di Como's current tariff sheet sets the rates below, compared here for one person and for two adults sharing a room for one night, our own multiplication of the official rate.

The Rules That Change the Bill

You pay the tax to the accommodation, which issues a receipt. It stops after the fourth consecutive night, so a week in a 3-star hotel costs two adults the same tax as four nights, $36.90 (€32) in total by our sum. Children up to fourteen are exempt, as are Como residents, and the exemption for a child needs a declaration handed to the manager.

A stay in Cernobbio or Brunate falls under a different comune, and this sheet does not apply there. Check the host's booking page for the local figure before you compare a lake village with a room in town.

The Room Itself: No Rate Printed Here

This guide took no reading of room rates, so no nightly price appears anywhere on this page. A rate quoted without dates is close to meaningless in Como anyway, because the same room is sold at different prices across the season. Search your own dates by area on where to stay in Como.

Where the Pass Pays and Where It Does Not

The Como Art Pass covers two or three of the cathedral, the Pinacoteca and the Tempio Voltiano within 72 hours of the first entry. Two single tickets cost $13.84 (€12) against $12.69 (€11) for the pass, and three singles $20.80 (€18) against $18.46 (€16). The saving is small, but it is a saving, and the pass also removes one queue at each door.

The Online Fee at the Cathedral

Buy a cathedral ticket online and it costs $7.50 (€6.50), because the Vivaticket price includes presale and commission. The paper ticket at the Broletto Infopoint on Via Pretorio costs the sheet price of $6.92 (€6), and the infopoint sells from 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 17:00 every day. The date you pick online is not binding for entry, so the only thing the online ticket buys is not queueing at the infopoint.

Two Museums You Cannot Pay For

The exhibition halls of the Museo Archeologico Paolo Giovio and the Museo storico Giuseppe Garibaldi are both closed for maintenance, and the Comune gives no reopening date. No price is printed for them here because there is nothing to buy. The Villa Olmo villa is closed for restoration as well, while its park stays open and free.

The Cathedral's Free Route

Without a ticket, the cathedral lets tourists follow a set route: in through the Porta delle Virtù, along the right aisle past the altar of Sant'Abbondio, under the organ lofts, into the left aisle and out through the Porta della Rana. The ticket adds the transept, the wooden choir, the sacristies and, with a guide and a signed form, the upper walkways. Villa Olmo Park and Two Churches

The park of Villa Olmo is free and open every day, 07:00-23:00 from 5 April to 30 September and 07:00-20:00 from 1 October to 4 April. Its rules ban picnics, so a packed lunch is eaten elsewhere. The Basilica di San Fedele is an active parish church and free to enter, closed to general visits on Mondays.

The Basilica di Sant'Abbondio is open daily 07:30-18:30, also free.

The Lakefront

• The promenade from Piazza Cavour to the Tempio Voltiano gardens and on to Villa Olmo costs nothing and needs no timetable.
• Watching the boats leave the Piazza Cavour landing stages is free, and so is reading the fare board before you decide.
• The tourist info points at the Broletto and in Como San Giovanni station hand out city maps without charge.

Bus or Boat to Bellagio

On price alone the bus wins. The C130 costs $5.08 (€4.40) by contactless card against $13.84 (€12) for the ordinary boat, and the rapido boat is $19.61 (€17). The boat is the scenic way and the bus the cheap one, and the day ticket at $31.10 (€27) only pays if you stop in more than one village.

Taxis

The Comune di Como publishes no taxi tariff, and none of the Milan airports publishes a fare to Como either. Ask for the price before you get in, and read Como taxi before you count on one. What the MICHELIN Guide Does Say

The MICHELIN Guide Italia 2026 lists three restaurants in Como city, and it prints a price band as a row of currency symbols rather than a euro figure. Kitchen, on Via per Cernobbio, holds one star and sits in the top band, labelled 'Spare no expense'. Feel Como, on Via Diaz, is in the selection in the same top band.

Comi 107, on Via Borgo Vico, is in the selection one band lower, labelled 'Special occasion'. The guide lists no Bib Gourmand, its value award, anywhere in the comune. Those bands tell you where the top of the market is, and nothing about an ordinary lunch.

How to Budget Food Without a Price List

• Treat food as the one flexible line and set your own figure, since this page will not supply one.
• Read the menu posted outside before sitting down, which is the only reliable price source in town.
• Picnics are banned in the Villa Olmo park by ordinance, so a packed lunch belongs on a lakefront bench instead.

Food Tours and Classes Price the Meal In Advance

The only food costs you can fix before arriving are bookable ones. The small-group food tour with a full meal and wine is listed at $113.50, with infants under 5 free but still needing a ticket. It costs more than a day of fares, but the price is known in advance and covers the eating.

Tour prices are the US dollar figures listed by the operator. Public alternatives are official fares at our conversion, for one adult, return journeys where the tour returns you to Como.

What the extra money buys is not the ride. The public boat to Cernobbio covers the same first basin, and the funicular is the same funicular. A tour buys a fixed slot, a smaller group, commentary and, on the prosecco boat, the drink.

Every tour above cancels free up to 24 hours before. If you want the view and not the company, the public fare is the answer. If you want someone to explain what you are looking at, the tour is.

• Buying a boat ticket on board when the pier's ticket office is open costs a fixed €1 extra per passenger. Buy at the office on Piazza Cavour first.
• An ASF bus ticket from the driver costs $2.88 (€2.50) against $2.31 (€2) from a machine or by tapping a contactless card. A red light on the validator means the card was not accepted and you have no ticket.
• Travelling on Trenord without a valid ticket costs a €35 fine plus costs if paid within 5 days, and €50 plus costs after that. Digital tickets need no validation, paper tickets at a station without a validator are validated by hand.
• The online cathedral ticket carries a €0.50 presale fee over the price at the Broletto Infopoint.
• The tourist tax is per person, not per room, so a family of four with two teenagers over 14 pays it four times.
• Returns on Navigazione boats are simply double the single. To Bellagio a return is $27.70 (€24) and the band 6 day ticket $31.10 (€27), so the day ticket only pays once you add a stop on the way.
• Bag storage is not free, and there is no left-luggage office at Como San Giovanni station. Prices by service are on Como luggage storage.

Is Como Expensive?

On the official figures, not especially. A return train from Milan, the funicular and two museum entries come to $33.70 (€29.20), and the dearest walk-in museum ticket in the city is $11.54 (€10). What moves a Como trip from cheap to expensive is almost entirely the room, the restaurant and the private boat, and those are the three costs no official source prices.

Decide those three first, then the fares on this page will barely register. For a family, Como with kids shows how far the child rules bring the day down.
